The AKCA 2006 Seminar Pond Tour

Niagara Falls from the American side
looking towards Canada

In 2006 the AKCA (Associated Koi Clubs of America) Seminar was in Buffalo, New York, a short drive from Niagara Falls. All of the koi (Cyprinus carpio) hobbyists admired the majesty, strength, and beauty of these falls. If only we could re-create this ideal waterfall for a koi pond! This is the goal of all who build ponds for koi.

On Sunday, we had an opportunity to visit many ponds in the surrounding area. This article presents pictures taken by the author and pond descriptions written by the owners of the ponds.

The gardens, opened in 1900, were designed by the Lord & Burnham Company, premier designers of Victorian glass houses. This unique tri-domed conservatory offers a collection of stunning native and tropical plants from around the world. At the time of its construction it was the third largest greenhouse in the United States and the ninth largest in the world.
