Hybrids of a
Reciprocal Cross

I wanted to know, after working with many hardy waterlily crosses, what the results would be of reciprocal crosses, hybridization involving a pair of crosses that reverse the sexes associated with each genotype.

Results of the first reciprocal cross, between Nymphaea 'Splendida' and N. 'Mayla' are as follows:  


N. 'Splendida'

1. 15 new hybrids of N. 'Splendida' x N. 'Mayla' are pictured in A

2. 14 new hybrids of vice versa are shown in B

This pair produced similar results in term of the hybrids' flower shapes and colors. Two other pairs appear in WGI ONLINE Journal 3.2 and 3.3.
